Arlene Miller

February 1, 1926 — March 19, 2019

Arlene was born February 1, 1926, the first child of Jens & Leona (Damgaard) Anderson in Minden Nebraska. Her father worked for the railroad and the family of five moved to Twin Falls Idaho in 1943. Arlene was graduated from Twin Falls High School two years later and subsequently found employment as a bookkeeper at the Idaho Egg Company where she met her husband, Calvin H Miller. They were married December 21, 1947 in the Twin Falls First Church of the Nazarene. The couple was blessed with three children: Doneta Marie in 1949, Calvin Ray in 1952 and Ronald Lee in 1956. After struggling with rising medical bills, the couple made the difficult decision to relocate to Lancaster California in 1959. However, in March of 1960 an even better employment opportunity presented itself and the family relocated again to Sylmar California.
Arlene was very active in the Sylmar Free Methodist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She worked as both a classroom aide and playground supervisor at both Dyer Street School and Light & Life Christian School. Arlene also worked as a legal secretary to W. Douglas Weigand, Jr for more than 25 years.
After her retirement, she & her husband relocated to Lancaster California in 1999. Arlene was an active member of the Quartz Hill Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending time with her church family.
Beginning in 2008, both Arlene & Calvin were cared for in their home by Kim Schneider, who continued to care for Arlene after Calvin’s passing in 2010. Due to Arlene’s declining health, she moved to the Lively Home in 2014 and lived there until her passing.
Arlene is survived by her daughter, Doneta Slocum, and son, Ronald of Lancaster CA, her son Calvin of Cambridge ID, her grandson, Erik (Angela) Slocum of Fontana CA. her granddaughter, Katie (Daryle) Garrett and great-granddaughter, Lydia, of Ridgecrest CA, sister-in-law Cordella Anderson of Meridian ID plus numerous cousins, nephews & nieces. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Calvin, her parents, Jens & Leona Anderson, her brothers: Donald (& wife Marian), Wayne (& wife Margrett) and Chester .
Celebration of Arlene’s life will be held on April 13, 2019 at 2pm at Lancaster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
