John Curtis Vandraiss peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 80 years of age in Lancaster, CA. John was born October 31, 1940 to Wm Curtis and Hecla (Jankauskas) Vandraiss in Detroit, Michigan. John attended several high schools including Palmdale High School as he was in the foster care system most of his teenage years. He also attended Antelope Valley College while managing a gas station in Lancaster. John began his long, impressive career at Rockwell International in the early 1960s. When he retired, he was the Vice president of New Business.
John was passionate about his family, technology, science, mechanics, world affairs, super cars, and animals. He was an extraordinarily intelligent man who was committed to “learn something new every day”. He regularly followed Mo Vlogs and other super car vloggers and stayed up to date with the good work that the Vet Ranch does.
John supported his grandchildren by enthusiastically attending and recording their sporting events. He also made personalized birthday and Christmas cards on his computer for his family members each year.
John is survived by his siblings: Carole Meza, Jim Vandraiss and Roy Beyer, his stepchildren Jack Zarley (Vicki) and Vicki Porowski (Kevin), his grandchildren Justin Zarley, Joel Zarley and Shay Porowski and three great grandchildren. There will not be a memorial service.
