MARK MCBRIDE

December 25, 1958 — January 8, 2021

Mark Abry McBride, 62, of Palmdale, California passed away January 8, 2021 at the Palmdale Regional Medical Center following an active diagnosis of Covid-19.
Born in Hawaii on Christmas Day, 1958 at Queens Hospital in Honolulu, Mark was the third child of Henry Jackson McBride, Jr. and Sandra Joanne McBride (nee Fulle). Mark was dedicated to those he loved, from his siblings right through to his children, and he devoted his energy and time to his extended family. He is remembered as someone who reached out to help and who always laughed at life’s absurdities.
His sister, Molly McBride was close to her brother. “He’s always with me,” she said.
Schuyler McBride, his youngest sibling, treasured their close bond. “He was my favorite brother,” he said.
Mark was able to speak with both his mother and brother in late December and they planned a family reunion and picnic once the pandemic had passed. Sandy Curtis remembered the call for being so positive and reminiscent of better times. “It was like talking to the old Mark,” she said.
“It didn’t matter who it was,” said Margie, his companion of many years. “He would give his last dollar to a stranger if he thought they needed it.” Margie is the mother of four of Mark’s children– Christoper, Mark, Jr., Moriah and Sean.
“I remember the good times we had and all our adventures together,” said Corlyn, the mother of Elisabeth and Kathryn, Mark’s eldest daughters.
Mark was also father to Jennifer and Mary, Margie’s eldest daughters. Though they were not his biological children, they knew no other father and Mark made no distinction between them or their siblings.
Mark faced overwhelming challenges with humor. From his parent’s divorce, to his profound dyslexia, to becoming partially disabled and his daughter’s long-term medical challenges stemming from childhood cancer, he stood his ground and always did the best he could for the people he loved.
His mother remembers how Mark “always did things his own way.”
According to his daughter Moriah, Mark expressed his final wishes to her shortly before saying goodbye.
“We were in the hospital,” Moriah said, "and I told him I loved him and he said, ‘I love you, too. And I know how much you love me…don’t ever forget that.’ Then Dad said that he wanted to be cremated and to have his ashes spread somewhere beautiful. So, that’s what we’re going to do.”
Mark had a total of 10 siblings and half-siblings through various blended families. He is pre-deceased by his father and a younger brother, Brigham McBride. He is survived by Sylvia Smith, Cherie Boshell, J.R. Steele, Jon Vanderlynde, Paris Straughter, Tori Cordt, Schuyler McBride, Molly McBride and Murdoch McBride.
Mark McBride will be cremated under the direction of Antelope Valley Cremation Services. A memorial service and the spreading of his ashes will be announced later in the year once pandemic restrictions have been lifted.
