Melinda Lea Meyer Hunter 83 years, 11 months, 22 days passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, September 22, 2023, at Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancaster, California. Melinda moved to Lancaster, California to be close to her family and son to avoid the cold winters of Chicago Illinois in the summer of 2011.
Melinda Lea Meyer Hunter was married to John Corey Hunter on April 22, 1967, for 25 years. The couple had one son John Emerson Hunter. The couple was divorced on August 4, 1992. Melinda retired from the Circuit Court Cook County Probation Department after 20 years of service in 2010. Melinda made the choice to move closer to her son in California and realize her dream of owning a home in California.
Melinda Lea Meyer Hunter was born in Chicago Illinois on September 30, 1939. She moved to Swan Iowa when she was 7 years old and lived there for 3 years. Melinda and her family moved to Indianola Iowa when she was 10 years old. Then, Melinda and her family moved to Des Moines Iowa when she was 15 years old in her sophomore year of high school. Melinda excelled in her studies and decided to attend Carleton College in Northfield Minnesota where she graduated with Honors with a bachelor degree in English. Melinda decided that she would participate in the United States Peace Corps after her graduation from college. Melinda served in the Peace Core in 1961 in the Philippines for 2 years in Manilla and small towns in surrounding areas. Melinda learned the local language of Tagalog and could spell, speak and learned songs in the language. Melinda got married to her husband John Corey Hunter and decided to continue her education at North Park
Theological Seminary where she earned a Master of Divinity Degree. Melinda loved to travel and has been to most of the states in our country and has traveled abroad to many countries and continents. Melinda lived a great life and died suddenly, she will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Survivors of Melinda include her son John Emerson Hunter, his wife Leticia Hunter, nephew Daniel McQuown, his wife and children. Melinda was preceded in death by her parents Emerson Meyer, and Margaret Baugh, her sister Celia McQuown, and her nephew Robert McQuown.
A visitation is scheduled at Haley-Olsen Memorial Funeral Home in Lancaster CA, on Saturday October 28, 2023, from 2PM-6PM. The Memorial Funeral Service will be held at Lancaster United Methodist Church in Lancaster CA. on November 4, from 2PM to 6 PM. Preferred donations are to Lancaster United Methodist Church or Saint Jude Children's Hospital.
